What's on your mind?
- How old do I have to be to learn to fly?
Just like when you're a kid - if you can't reach the pedals or see over the dashboard, then you'll have to wait a few years. Although you can have dual instruction earlier, you can't fly solo or get your pilots licence before your 16th birthday.
Generally, people learn fastest when they're teenagers, but there's plenty of oldies who start learning after retirement.

- What does it cost to learn to fly?
Your Intermediate microlight pilot licence will cost $4000 - $5000 to gain, because it involves mainly dual instruction.
- How many hours does it take to go solo?
Some people fly solo after 8 hours dual instruction, but most take longer to reach that stage.
- Do you have youth rates?
From time-to-time, the club offers scholarships to young pilots, to help them get into aviation.
- Can I come along as a passenger, while my friend is learning to fly?
Our club microlights are two-seaters, so there is no room for another person.
Why not take a trial lesson yourself?
After the student pilot has passed their Advanced Local certificate and got a Passenger Rating, they can take you for a flight.

- I am building my own aircraft. How can the club help me?
While some of our club members have built their own aircraft, you should really join the Sport Aircraft Association of New Zealand as well. Their members have proudly built many amazing aircraft.
SAANZ have specialist mentors around the country to encourage and advise you throughout the build. They also understand the processes and paperwork for initial certification and ongoing maintenance.

- I want to buy an aircraft. Who do I register it with?
The aircraft needs to be registered with CAA.
